For those who cannot speak
These lips. They unfolded before me. As I was painting and manipulating canvas on an old board, my mind was in constant conversation contemplating the happenings of the day, wrestling with my uneasiness, hurting for the hostages and their loved ones, ruminating about my sadness, my madness, my inability to understand hate and violence. And I heard the deafening silence of the hostages. Lips started forming, first in the quiet of blue. But quiet isn't going to free anyone. And, so, my conversation became bolder red backed with the intensity of sculptural, textural black. Words kept emerging, words I'd been hearing for days, "Bring Them Home." And then the voices of those abducted followed, "Bring Me Home." ... "for those who cannot speak, we speak for them."
If those held captive were your child, your grandchild, your spouse, your mother, your father, your niece, your nephew, your cousin, your friend -- a stranger whose family needs them home, wouldn't you want to speak for them? I DO!
The Hostage and Missing Families Forum is advocating to bring all hostages safely home. It is not about war; it is about humanity. Every purchase of a fine art print, every purchase of clothing helps support their efforts. If you'd like to speak for those who cannot, I welcome you to join me.
May we all one day in the not-too-distant future witness that love and kindness can be so much more effective than war and violence.
Bring Them Home. Bring Me Home... for those who cannot speak, we speak for them.
